Asthma Drugs Flashcards
What are beta agonists?
Stimulate beta 2 receptors which cause smooth muscle relaxation
Three categories of bronchodilators
- Beta agonists
- Anticholinergics
- Combination of both
Types of beta agonists
- ventolin (salbutamol)
- salmetorol
- fomoterol
What are anticholinergics?
Inhibit muscarinic receptors which normally cause smooth muscle contraction
Types of anticholinergics
- ipratroprium (atorvent)
- triotroprium (spiriva)
Combivent
Combination of a beta agonist and anticholinergic (ipratroprium and salbutamol)
Corticosteroids
Decreased airway inflammation
IV corticosteroids
Solumedrol and solucortef
Inhaled corticosteroids
- Fluticasone (Flovent)
- Budenoside (pulmicort)
Bronchodilator + corticosteroid
- symbicort (Budenoside + pulmicort)
- advair (Flovent + solumetorol)
