Asthma Flashcards
Asthma vs COPD onset and symptoms
ASTHMA
❑ Before age 20 years
❑ Variation over minutes, hours or days
❑ Worse during the night or early morning
❑ Triggered by exercise, emotions
including laughter, dust or exposure
to allergens
COPD
❑ After age 40 years
❑ Persistent despite treatment
❑ Good and bad days but always daily
symptoms and exertional dyspnea
❑ Chronic cough & sputum preceded
onset of dyspnea, unrelated to triggers
Asthma vs COPD lung function
Lung function
Aathma
❑ Record of variable airflow limitation
(spirometry or peak flow)
COPD
❑ Record of persistent airflow limitation
(FEV1/FVC < 0.7 post-B
Chest X-ray
ASTHMA
❑ Normal
COPD
❑ Severe hyperinflation
Aathma vs COPD tratment
In asthma never give LABA alone
In COPD never give steroids alone
Asthma definition
Chronic heterogeneous disorder characterized by air way inflammation and hyperresponsivnes with cough.. dyspnea and wheezing.
Asthma definition

Diagnosis
PFT spirometry
fEV decrease FEV/FVC below 0.7
2. Peak expiratory flow rate
Peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) is the volume of air forcefully expelled from the lungs in one quick exhalation
Asthma treatment
Step 1_2 as needed low dose ICS_fermetrol
Step 3
Maintanc Low dose ICS_fermetrol
Step 4
Medium dose ICS fermetrol
Step 5
Add lAMA to high dose ICS_fermetrol
And in any stage we use
Low dose ICS_fermetrol as reliver when needed.
The alternative of ICS_fermetrol is ICS
