Assumptions Flashcards
What are the 3 assumptions of the Biological approach?
The localisation of brain function
Neurotransmitters
Evolutionary influences
Explain the localisation of brain function
The Biological approach believes that different areas of the brain are responsible for different activities
What are neurotransmitters?
They are chemical messengers that allow neurons to communicate at the synapse, they have a very significant effect on our mental health and an imbalance can cause major issues
What are some examples of Neurotransmitters?
Dopamine, serotonin and oxcytocin
Explain evolutionarily influences
Traits that enhance the chance of survival (e.g altruistic behaviour) and are more likely to be passed on to the next generation
What are the 4 lobes of the cerbal cortex?
Frontal
Parietal
Ocipital
Temporal
