Assumption 3-Neurotransmitters Flashcards
How do biological psychologists explain the behaviour of neurotransmitters?
Neurons =nerve cells transmit electrical signals throughout the body 3 basic roles=
1.Receive information
2.Determine weather the information should be passed on
3.Send the information to muscles glands or other organs
How do neurotransmitters work?
Chemical messengers pass signals from presynaptic neuron(the one sending message)
to postsynaptic neuron(the one receiving the message) across the synapse(small gap)
What is dopamine?
Controls the brains reward and pleasure centres responsible for feeling pleasure and satisfaction
How can dopamine be the explanation of romantic relationships?
It activates the reward centres of the brain, making love a pleasurable experience
High dopamine levels also🔗to schizophrenia
