Assumption [3] ‘childhood experiences influence behaviour’ Flashcards
What is the third assumption of the psychodynamic approach?
Behaviour is influenced by childhood experiences.
What is psychosexual development?
Freud’s belief that all children go through 5 stages and the Id, Ego and Superego develop throughout these stages. A child needs correct satisfaction through each stage to develop healthily.
State and explain the 5 stages of psychosexual development.
Oral - ( Ages 0-1 year old ) Libido focused on mouth.
Anal - ( Ages 1-3 years old ) Libido focused on anus.
Phallic - ( Ages 3-6 years old ) Libido focused on genital interests.
Latency - ( Ages 6-puberty ) Libido isn’t focused on anything.
Genital - ( Ages puberty+ ) Libido focused on genitals sexually.
Explain fixation and it’s effects on psychosexual development.
There are two types of fixation:
Frustration - when the stage has not been resolved because the needs have not been met meaning it is under satisfied.
Overindulgence - when the needs of the child have been more than satisfied making it reluctant to move on to the next stage.
( Fixation effects development of personality )
