Assumption 2- localisation of brain function Flashcards
What happens if your motor cortex is damaged?
Your movement may become delayed or limited
What happens if your visual cortex is damaged?
Your vision will become impared
What happens if your Broca’s area is damaged?
You may develop problems processing language e.g slurred speech
What happens if your Wernicke’s area is damaged?
Your understanding of language could be impaired
What is the brain made up of?
interconnected cells called neurons- roughly 100 billion neurons in the brain and spinal cord
Where does the brain receive information from?
Sensory organs such as the eyes or tongue, as well as information about the position of the body, pain etc
What are the four lobes?
- Frontal lobe
- Parietal lobe
- Occipital lobe
- Temporal lobe
What is the localisation of brain function?
The principle that certain areas of the brain are responsible for different functions
What is the frontal lobe responsible for?
Thinking and creativity, has been linked to our personalities
What is the parietal lobe responsible for?
Receives sensory information such as temperature, touch and pain
What is the temporal lobe responsible for?
Memory processing as well as the processing of auditory information
What is the occipital lobe responsible for?
Visual processing and receives information directly from the eyes
