What morals does the priest share with St Francis?
The ideas of helping everyone no matter what
Why is the priest explaining to the tourists about St Francis?
To explain the meaning even though it’s already there. As well as to distract them from the beggar.
Why does MacCaig compare the tourists to chickens?
Because they all run to the food instead of letting the beggar get some
“The ruined temple outside” Is comparing the temple to who?
The beggar.
What does “eyes wet with pus” explain to the reader?
That he’s so ill his eyes aren’t crying tears but pus.
“In a voice as sweet as a child” means what?
That the beggar is compared to being as sweet as a child.
Why is that line so important?
Because it shows how MacCaig was the only person to see who this man was underneath.
