- Very comprehensive
- Widely used
What are x3 disadvantages of the CELF-5?
- High cognitive load
- No breaks - long process (2 hours)
- Inflexible scoring
What does Renfrew-5 measure? Age?

- Quick and easy
- Normed at monthly intervals - easy comparison
- Checks for intelligibility
What are x3 disadvantages of the Renfrew-5?
- Does not assess BSL grammar
- Only a screen - bigger language sample needed
- Can be difficult to transcribe unintelligible speech
What does the TROG measure? Age? What does it involve?
Receptive grammar - understanding of grammatical contrasts
4 years - adult
Consists of 80 four-choice items - The child has to decide which picture, out of the choice of four, goes with a sentence which is read aloud.

- Standardised
- Can be used to measure progress from one year to the next
What are x3 disadvantages of the TROG?
- Only assesses understanding of a restricted range of 20 grammatical structures.
- Does not assess general conversations
- Cannot be translated into BSL

What does the Nuffield measure?
Mainly for CAS
Designed primarily for 3-7 years
Combination of formal and informal assessment
Starts with simpler speech sounds to more complex
What are x3 advantages of the Nuffield?
- Therapy as well as assessment
- Can be tailored to the client
- Uses early speech skills to progress to connected speech
What are x3 disadvantages of the Nuffield?
- Child needs to be able to take feedback
- Needs to have some meta skills e.g. understanding sounds, blending
- Needs to be able to sit and attend
What does the DEAP measure?
3;6-6;11 years
Assesses articulation, phonology & oral motor disorders
