How do you don and operate the PBE?

A

Open stowage box

OPEN VACUUM SEALED BAG BY PULLING RED TAG

Remove PBE from foil bag

Place both hands inside neck seal, palms facing each other and visor to front

Bend forward and insert head through neck seal

Ensure flap at front and back are extended

Adjust oro-nasal mask if necessary

PULL ADJUSTMENT STRAPS FORWARD TO ACTIVATE

Pull adjustment straps backwards to seal the mask over the nose and mouth

Ensure nothing in neck seal eg hair

A

Move to a safe area

A

Treat used PBE as a dangerous good. Place PBE in an atlas box then place into the lavatory and lock the lavatory door

PBE precautions?

A

Be careful not to damage the neck seal when fitting eg glasses, jewellery

Do not interfere with the neck seal once it is in place as this may allow smoke to enter into the PBE

Ensure long hair is contained within the neck seal inside the PBE

After use do not remove in fire vicinity due to oxygen saturation of the hair - brush hair with hands to remove oxygen particles

Do not use water to cool PBE

Take caution when removing the PBE as generator may be hot and cause injury

Oxygen bottle operation?

A

Remove oxygen bottle from bracket and prepare away from pax

Secure bottle to self

Obtain and remove mask from sealed bag mask, ensure no kinks in tubing

Remove dust covers and insert metal connectors from mask into outlets

TURN ON USING ON/OFF CONTROL KNOB

CHECK OXYGEN FLOW TO MASK

LOOK TO SEE IF FLOW INDICATOR IN THE TUBE TURNS GREEN

LISTEN FOR HISSING SOUND

FEEL AIRFLOW ON CHEEK

Fit mask around nose and mouth and secure with elastic band

MONITOR O2 BOTTLE PRESSURE (GAUGE FACING CREW MEMBER) IF POSSIBLE DO NOT ALLOW BOTTLE TO FALL BELOW 50PSI UNLESS AN EMERGENCY

Turn control knob off when no longer required

A

Hold megaphone with one hand, do not place other hand around mouthpiece

SQUEEZE AND HOLD THE HANDGRIP

Speak into the mouthpiece holding the housing against the lips

When finished speaking release hold on hand grip

Adjust volume using the control dial on the side

Activate horn by pulling pin adjacent to volume control

To turn horn off replace pin or squeeze handgrip

PASS WAIST STRAP AROUND INFANTS WAIST AND CLIP TWO ENDS TOGETHER

TIE CROTCH STRAP TO SECURE CROTCH STRAP BETWEEN THE INFANTS LEGS
