assessment Flashcards
CVC Patency Assessment
Partial Occlusion
- decreased ability to infuse
- sluggish flow
+intraluminal thrombus
+fibrin sheath
CVC Patency Assessment
Withdrawal Occlusion
- unable to aspirate
- able to infuse
- may result in a line reversal
+fibrin tail
CVC Patency Assessment
Complete Occlusion
- unable to aspirate
- unable to infuse
CVC Occlusions
Intraluminal Thrombus
inadequate irrigation when blood remains
didn’t flush properly, interdialytic lock etc
CVC Occlusions
Fibrin Tail/Flap
platelet aggregation and fibrin accumulation
- cannot aspirate but can infuse
- positive pressure pushes tail/flap aside
CVC Occlusions
Mural Thrombus
damage around line causes occlusion
CVC Occlusions
Fibrin Sheath
platelets and fibrin deposition
