Assays Flashcards
Golden gate assay
Chip with primers attached to it, each for a different SNP.
Has fluorescent nucleotides in the mix, so that when it binds to a certain primer, the “address” can be used to determine which SNP it is
Infinium I vs Infinium II assay
Infinium I:
beads have SNP attached to it, and labeled fluorescent nucleotides attach one after the the SNP
Infinium II
beads have primers leading up to the SNP, and each nucleotide is labeled differently. The fluorescent SNP is read
Compare DNA with CODIS
Use PCR on several specific loci,
variable number of STR (length of PCR fragment) used to determine allele.
Differently labeled primers can be used to do multiple loci at once
Uses of CODIS system (STR):
5
parentage forensic felon database archeological remains disaster identification
Types of samples for use in CODIS (8)
blood semen tissue bone teeth hair nails saliva
