Aspetic And Medical Asepsis Flashcards
Is a method designed to prevent
contamination from microorganisms
ASEPTIC TECHNIQUE
Is a term referring to any process that eliminates or kills all forms of life and other biological agents like viruses
and some biological pathogens.
Sterilization
absence of bacteria , viruses and other microorganism
Asepsis
destroying bacteria using disinfectant
Disinfection
A. Thermal/ dry heat
B. Moist hea
Physical method
sterilization by using bactericide solution
Chemical
- use of UV rays
- ionizing radiation( x-ray gamma rays)
Radiation Sterilization
Treatment comprising conditioning (if used) exposure to ethylene oxide in a sealed chamber, removal of ethylene oxide and flushing if used.
Gaseous Sterilization
The practice of creating and maintaining a sterile environment in which organism are destroyed before entering the body
SURGICAL ASEPSIS
✓ Reffered to as “sterile technique” typically during surgery.
✓ Eliminates all pathogens
SURGICAL ASEPSIS
Is necessary for any invasive procedure
PRINCIPLES OF
SURGICAL ASEPSIS
Observe sterile technique when
handling sterile material
“clean for clean
and sterile
for sterile”
PRINCIPLES OF
SURGICAL ASEPSIS
➢ also referred to as CLEAN TECHNIQUE;
➢ is the infection control principle and practice that decreases the spread of infection.
➢ reduces the number of pathogenic
microorganisms and it also impairs the proliferation and growth of microorganisms.
MEDICAL ASEPSIS
A technique of scrubbing hands forearms and elbows by the use of antiseptic or antimicrobial agent and sterile brush, after proper hand washing
SURGICAL HAND SCRUBBING
The proper technique for putting on
sterile gloves before doing any sterile procedure/ minor surgery and the correct manner of removing after use
APPLYING AND REMOVING
STERILE GLOVES: OPEN GLOVING TECHNIQUE
Prevent transfer of microorganisms from hands to the sterile objects or open wounds.
APPLYING AND REMOVING
STERILE GLOVES: OPEN GLOVING TECHNIQUE
Wearing a sterile gown and gloves are necessary to safely carry out sterile procedures. These act as a barrier to prevent transmission of infection between staff and patients and as a
personal protection barrier after the surgical scrub procedure has been completed.
STERILE GOWNING &
CLOSED GLOVING
To permit the wearer to come within the sterile field and carry out sterile technique during an operative procedure.
STERILE GOWNING &
CLOSED GLOVING
Application of sterile drapes on the
surrounding skin surface exposing
only the perineal and rectal area.
DRAPING: LITHOTOMY POSITION
To isolate the perineal and rectal area from the rest of the body surface from contamination during delivery and other obstetric, gynecologic and surgical procedures
DRAPING
✓ Remove dirt and debris, hand lotions, skin oil, and transient microbes from hand and lower arms of sterile team members.
✓ Remove as many microorganisms from the hands as possible before a sterile procedure.
✓ Decrease the risk of infection for high-risk groups.
✓ To ensure that all individual or health practitioners maintain high standard.
✓ Reduce the resident microbial count to minimum
✓ Inhibit rapid rebound growth of microorganisms.
SURGICAL HAND SCRUBBING
Prevent transfer of microorganisms from hands to sterile objects or open wounds.
APPLYING AND REMOVING
STERILE GLOVES

CLOSED GLOVING
EQUIPMENTS
Arranged from top to bottom:
➢ 1 - Buttock sheet
➢ 2 - Leggings
➢ 1 – Abdominal sheet
