What is plastic theatre?
Plastic theatre is the use of props, sounds or stage directions to portray clear parallels with the character’s mind on stage.
Where did plastic theatre stem from?
Expressionism (1905-1920 in Europe), attempted to distort images, use symbolism to show the inner psyche of the mind.
What are the characteristics of a tragic hero according to Aristotle?
- Usually of noble birth

- Audience may feel pity for the character
Characteristics of a tragic hero
- Someone with quality of greatness
- Good but not too good, so the audience can identify with them.
- His own destruction is for a greater cause (to prove a point)
- The hero’s downfall is his own fault as a result of his own free choice, but his misfortune is not wholly deserved.
Why did drama originate?
Dionysus the god of wine was honoured with a festival called ‘City Dionysia’.
What is dithyrambic poetry?
Songs of praise to god performed during Dionysian festivals by a group of 50 citizens of Athens, known as a chorus.
