What is a biome?
A large scale ecosystem with its own unique plants and animals.
What factors affect biomes?
- Climate (rainfall and temperature).
- Latitude (distance from equator).
- Altitude (height above sea level).
What is the first layer of a mountain?
Deciduous forest (warm and wet).
What is the second layer of a mountain?
Coniferous forest (cold and wet).
What is the third layer of a mountain?
Shrubs and bushes (cold and dry).
What is the line between shrubs and bushes and alpine meadow?
Tree line at 3500 metres.
What is the fifth layer of a mountain?
Alpine tundra (extreme cold and arid).
What is the line in between the alpine tundra and snow?
Snow line.
What is the sixth layer of a mountain?
Snow.

Movement of water through streams and rivers.

Water vapour turning into water droplets.
What is evaporation?
Water droplets turning into water vapour.

Movement of water underground through rocks.
What is infiltration?
Seeping of water into the soil.
What is interception?
Collection of water by vegetation.
What is overland flow?
Flow of water over the earth’s surface.
What is precipitation?
All the rainwater that falls to earth.
What is throughflow?
Movement of water through the soil.
What is transpiration?
Loss of moisture from plants.
