ASI Flashcards
ASI - Operation??
Measures difference between Pito Pressure and Static Pressure
How does asi measure speed
Dynamic Pressure is directly proportional top speed
Therefore by measure static pressure and subtracting it from total (Pito) pressure speed can be referenced
Equations
D + S = P
D = P - S
ASI construction
Capsule supplied by Pito pressure (D+S)
Case supplied with Static Pressure - Equalizes (cancels) static pressure in capsule and whats left is dynamic Pressure.
ERRORS + Corrections
Instrument - Card
Pressure or Pos - Card
IAS - Ins and Pos = Calibrated (CAS)
Density - NAV Computer CAS - Desinty = TAS
Comprehensibility - High speed causes dynamic pressure to be too high. IAS OVEREADS
EAS
Equivalant air speed - Only corrected for comprehensibility
ASI colours
White - Flap operating speed range VSO top end is VFE
Green - Normal - VNO VS1 (stall speed with flaps)
Yellow - Caution smooth air only
Red - VNE
Leaks Leaks where? Question invalid
ASI will underead
Blockages Both Pito and Static - Level Flight
last recorded speed
If static - will read correctly (So long as no static press change)
Blockages (Bot PITO and Static) - climb/descend
Pito - Climb = Overread (Case pressure too low)
Static block Climb = Underead Case pressure high - Capsule pressure low
