asexual reproduction Flashcards
asexual reproduction
offspring rises from single organism via mitosis
Advantages of Asexual Reproduction
no need to seek a mate
no mating behaviours
no specialized anatomy required
types of asexual reproduction
- budding
- fragmentation
- mitosis
Budding (type)
development from outgrowth ex Hydra; grows extensions (buds) that detach
Fragmentation (type)
development from body fragment ex Fungi
Mitosis cell cycle growth phase ( interphase)
G1 phase - cell growth
S Phase - DNA replication/synthesis
G2 phase- another cell growth
mitosis cell cycle division stage
prophase
metaphase
anaphase
telophase
cytokensis
Prophase
chromatin condenses into chromosomes, centrioles move opp,
spindle fibre forms, nuclear membrane dissolves
metaphase
fiber attach to centromere, chromosomes align along equal plate
anaphase
fiber shortens, centrometere splits, chromatids pulled to opp ends
telophase
chromosome turn to chromatin, nuclear membrane appears, 2 new nuclei, fiber dissapears
cytokenisis
cell division results in 2 daughter cells
cloning
