- American Society of Anaesthesiologists
- They created the degree of anaesethetic risks to patients, divided into classes
* Dependent on: - Age
- Physical status
What is this?
The ASA classification
What category is considered Minimal risk?
Class 1
What category is considered Slight risk?
Class 2
What category is considered Moderate risk?
Class 3
What category is considered High risk?
Class 4
What category is considered Grave/Extreme risk?
Class 5
How many classes are there in the ASA Classification?

What ASA category is a patient that is healthy, has no underlying disease + undergoing the following examples:
* Ovariohysterectomy
* Castration
* Hip Dysplasia radiograph
Class 1
What ASA category is a patient that has slight > mild systemic disturbances, able to compensate but have no clinical signs and can be:
* Neonates
* Geriatric
* Obese
* Fracture w/o shock
* Mild diabetes
* Low grade heart murmur

Class 2
What ASA category is a patient that has severe systemic disease, or disturbances and not able to compensate fully
It may present as:
* Anaemia
* Anorexia
* Moderate hydration
* Low-grade kidney disease
