AS350 BA emergency procedures Flashcards
what does land immediately mean
Land immediately
what does land as soon as possible mean?
land at the nearest site at which a safe landing can be made
What does land as soon as practicable mean?
extended flight is not recommended. The landing site and duration of flight is at the discretion of the pilot
what does continue flight mean?
continue flight and make required repairs at destination
what is the autorotation procedure?
- set low pitch
- monitor and control RRPM
- establish approx 65 kts
-move fuel control to shutdown position
depending on failure & time - close fuel shut off valve
switch off - booster pump
- generator
- master sw if smell of burning
- flare approx 65’
what are the symptoms of an engine flame out
- jerk in yaw axis for hi powered flight
- drop in RPM (horn sounds 360RPM
- torque = 0
- Ng reducing to 0
- Generator warning light illuminates
- engine oil pressure light illuminates
What is the relighting procedure in the event of engine failure?
- Booster pump on
- wait till NG < 30% then carry out normal starting procedure.
what is the procedure for governor failure with symptoms of large drop of fuel flow rate - symptoms as per engine fail but Ng stabilises at a low RPM value below 70% after a few seconds
- establish autorotation IAS 65kts
- advance fuel control lever into emergency sector
- Ng and T4 should rise
- control engine speed to 70% Ng
- If necessary increase Collective to bring RPM to 350 RPM
- Increase fuel control till RPM 380 RPM
- trim collective and fuel flow control to hold level flight at this rotor speed
what is the procedure for governor failure with symptoms of NG, T4, NR , Tq increase - excessive fuel flow rate.
- Do not reduce colletive
- Reduce fuel flow control lever till RRPM indicator is in the middle of the green.
- continue flight with governor out of action.
- any reduction of collective pitch will require reduction in fuel flow or vice versa
- set up approach for shallow run on landinging
what are the symptoms and procedure for surging ?
- surging indication is fluctuating RPM, Tq and T4 and jerks in yaw axis.
- change collective setting.
- If surging persists while fuel and oil pressure are correct, reduce fuel flow by taking fuel control lever out of the gate (governed range - below 80%Ng)
- If surging still persists - land as soon as possible.
What is the procedure for fire during start ?
- Close the fuel shut off
- switch off the booster pump
- crank the engine for 10 sec
- switch off battery
- use extinguisher to extinguish fire
What is the procedure for fire in flight.
- enter auto
- close fuel shut off cock to shut down engine
- switch off booster pump, generator,
- switch off elect master in the event of burning smell
What is the procedure for smoke in the cabin
- Shut off heating / demisting
- Switch off electrical master cut off switc
