`It is one of the oldest art forms that began during the Neolithic Period. Its popularity is enduring because of the tradition of tea ceremonies in the country.
POTTERY / PORCELAIN
A form of artistic writing, calligraphy has Chinese roots and was introduced to Japan in 600 A.D
CALLIGRAPHY ON SILK/PAPER
This type of printmaking started in China and was adapted in Japan in 1600s. First, the pattern is carved on a wood bloc. The cut areas will show “white” (the color of the paper). The areas left untouched will show “black” or any color at the original surface level
WOODBLOCK PRINTS
is the art of paper folding. The goal is to transform a flat sheet of square paper into a finished sculpture through folding techniques.
ORIGAMI
on the other hand is a variation of origami. It includes not only folding, but also cutting paper.
KIRIGAMI
There are various types of traditional dolls, some representing babies, warriors, fairy tale characters, etc. They are made for the shrines, for gift giving, and for festival celebrations
DOLLS
are known worldwide. They originated in the mid-1990s and their popularity has led to the establishment of many related attractions.
MANGA and ANIME
are part of Japanese Culture. They have existed over the centuries to celebrate ancient goods and now are used in theatre for entertainment, especially in Noh drama
MASK
Works of woven bamboo are among the important traditional crafts of Japan. They are made into objects such as baskets, lamps, cages, chimes etc.
BAMBOO CRAFT
is used from Buddha statues to bento boxes for food. This craft has been introduced form China but later has become distinctly Japanese because of the unique designs and the development of technology.
