protagonist alone with a guitar. The location is a Seattle downtown shopping district years after the apocalypse started. Sweeney used the background to establish the world’s previous success, having large buildings collapsed and overgrown, a result of his research. The foreground of the art is a destroyed room, draped in lush vines, bringing a natural calming feeling amongst the destruction. The subject becomes almost a silhouette in the darkroom, further illustrating how the character’s emotions are hidden.

PENSÉES BLEUES - HAUTON EWA - 160x130cm - Oil on canvas 2022

A

The work is done purely using blue gradients, the focus features a close portrait of a dancer in movement. Beginning with a sketch of the figure she is able to see the literal picture she is painting. Via the use of oil paints, glazes and charcoal, she creates rough, direct, decisive strokes, EMULATIONG MOVEMENT, transforming a purely realistic painting into a subjective piece.
