Artificial selection Flashcards
What is selective breeding?
Process that humans select which individuals to breed together, it is repeated in many generations each time, to improve the set of traits that the organisms have.
Differences between artificial and natural selection.
For Artificial selection, Human choose which individuals will breed.
Some organisms in the next generation will inherit desirable traits from both parents – these individuals will be more likely to be selected for breeding.
Breeding animals
Some animals have been domesticated by humans for food, transport… humans have directed the course of evolution by selecting certain individuals to breed from.
Breeding Plants
Traits that are desirable in crop plants include fast growth, high yield, nice appearance, good taste.
Farmers will choose that have some desirable traits and breed them with other plants that have different desirable traits.
