Q

Semi-adjsutable vs. Fully adjustable? (ART)

A

Curtis and Wachtel JPD 87

  • Semianatomic has limitations because of inability to accurately duplicate post determinants of occlusion
  • If patients have up to 2mm of IMLT and acceptable anterior guidance then use semianatomic

Q

Hanau Wide View.

A

Hanau Wide View. Based of the research of Rudolph Hanau.Introduced in 1983. 8 models, CL III – B
Arcon with adjustable incisal guide table
centric lock to restrict movement,
horizontal (-20 – 60)
lateral condylar inclination (0 – 30)
{L = H/8 + 12}
good posterior visibility.
Gaston 70 % lateral records with H2
Hanau modular system 194: curved protrusive and side shift: accepts 87%(Abdullah)

  • Arbitrarily placing the Bennett angle at 15 using the Hanau formula would only change the angle by 4degrees if a change in inclination was 20-50. creates minimal error.

Straight condylar path; the smallest conylar path on average has a radius of .5 inch. Geometrically, this may introduce a condylar error of .4mm compared to the average curved condylar path. Translating to a .2mm error at the 2nd molar.

This model has a dual end straight incisal pin—maintains the vertical anterior stop and provides contact for excursive movements.
The pin has 2 reference grooves that have been cut out at 37 and 54 mm below the Frankfort Horizontal Plane (Porion to Orbitale)—arbitrary landmarks for visual alignment of incisal edges of maxillary centrals for facebow transfers. 37mm—based on Bonwill’s triangle—horizontal occlusal plane. 54mm imposes slight anterior posterior inclination to plane. It comes with either a flat or adjustable guide table.
