Arthropod Immunity Flashcards
1
Q
How do arthropods respond to viral challenge?
A
RNase 3 (dicer) cleaves RNA into smaller pieces. RISC recognises these small pieces and cleaves the complementary strands of them.
2
Q
What cells in arthropods are capable of phagocytosis?
A
Their haemocytes
3
Q
How do the haemocytes recodnise pathoges?
A
With thioester containing proteins, which are similar to complement proteins.
4
Q
Is their evidence for an adaptive immune response in arthropods?
A
Yes - DSCAM can act as an opsonin and a receptor for pathogens.
inherited immunity
Immunity to some pathogens throught fly lifetime.
