Arteries and veins of the arms and hands Flashcards
Describe the structure of arteries
Thick walled, hollow tubes: 1. fibrous outer covering 2. A middle layer of muscle & elastic tissue 3. An endothelial layer made of squamous epithelial tissue
What is the function of the Left Subclavian Artery?
Receives blood from the aortic arch, supplies blood to the left arm
Function of the Palmer artery
Supplies blood to the portion of the hand just below the first row of knuckles, and divide into smaller arteries which supply the fingers.
Where is the Ulna artery located?
In the elbow, one of the branches of the brachial artery leads down the ulnar side of the forearm to the wrist.
What is the function of the arteries?
To carry oxygenated blood from the heart
Where is the Brachial Artery located?
Stems from the axillary artery, moves along the humerus down to the elbow
Where is the Right Subclavian artery located?
Below the clavicle (branching off the brachiocephalictrunk)
Where is the Left Subclavian artery located?
Branches off the arch of the aorta
What is the function of the pulmonary artery?
To carry deoxygenated blood to the lungs
Where is the Vertebral artery located?
Neck
What is the function of the Axillary artery?
Supplies blood vessels to the axilla (under arm) and the chest wall including the skin and shoulder
Where is the Axillary Artery?
Upper arm
What is the function of the veins?
To carry deoxygenated blood to the heart except in the pulmonary system
What is the function of the Right Subclavian Artery?
Supplies blood to the right arm with some branches carrying oxygenated blood up to the brain from the base of the neck
Function of the Brachial Artery?
Supplies blood to the triceps muscles
Where is the Right deep Palmer artery located
In the palm, in the lower part of the hand above the fingers
What artery carries blood from the heart to the brain?
Carotid artery
Arterioles branch into ..?
Capillaries
