Arterial Blood Gases Flashcards
Why do we need arterial blood gases?
adequacy of ventilation during drug therapy, oxygenation and ventilation.
What results from ABG and their values
pH: 7.35-7.45, PaCo24.27-6.40(Carbon Dioxide) PaO2:11-14.4 (Oxygen) K+:(Potassium) Na+(sodium) Ca+(Calcium), Lactate: 0.5-1.6 Glucose, Hb
pH
enzyme and cell membrane activity
low pH 7.38 and causes
Acidosis: increase Co2, over sedation, anaesthesia, respiratory failure T1 and T2, Neuromuscular disease, head trauma
high pH 7.45 and causes
Alkalosis: reduced co2, fever, anxiety, pregnancy,
type 1 and type 2 respiratory failure
1 just low o2, 2. low o2 high co2
HCO3
regulates pH, changes= metabolic problem
metabolic or respiratory problem
resp: kidneys correct pH within 2-4days, metabolic: lungs compensate within hours
