Green Ware
The clay is easily workable and bendable.
Leather hard
The clay is still workable but is no longer bendable.
Bone dry
Clay is dry- no longer workable- at this stage it is ready to be fired.
Score
To create teeth on both sides of the clay.
Slip
Saturated clay that works as glue for the clay.
Firing
Cooking the clay/changing the clay’s chemical properties.
Kiln
The machine you cook the clay in.
Bisque (▲05)
The first fire- clay reaches roughly 1900* - this is a low fire/half fired.
Pinch pots
A pot created by putting your thumb into the middle and pinching
around the sides/ the oldest form of pottery.
Coils
An evenly rolled long narrow strip of clay- it resembles a snake.
Slab
An even flattened piece of clay.
