What was its focus and what (generally) did it depict

A

Early Christians were more concerned with symbolic representations
- artists were not interested in the grace and power of the human body (which were so important to Greek and Roman artists)
- Instead, Christian art was intended to illustrate the glory and power of Christ.

A

These passageways outside of the city were where they would bury their dead and hold occasional religious services.

A

The term “Byzantine” derives from Byzantium, an ancient Greek colony founded by a man named Byzas
