What is a Colour Wheel?
Visually organizes and shows the important relashionships between colours
What are primary colours?
primary colours can be mixed to make all the other colour in the colour wheel. Can not be made by mixing other colours.
What are the primary colours?
Red, Blue, Yellow
What are secondary colours?
Made by mixing primary colours together
What are the secondary colours
Purple, Orange, Green
What are Intermediate colours?
A combnation of a primary and secondary colour.
What are the intermediate colours?
Red-Orange, Yellow-Orange, Yellow-Green, Blue-Green, Blue-Violet, Red-Violet
What are the three properties of colour?
Hue, Value, Intensity
What is value?
Tint (a colour mixed with white)
Shade (a colour mixed with black)
Tone (a colour mixed with gray)
What is intensity?
The brightnes or darkness of the colour, sometimes called saturation.
What does the property of colours create in a painting?
Mood
What mood do warm colours have?
happy and exciting. and warm tend to come forward in a painting
What mood do cool colours have?
solitude and sorrow etc… cool colours tend to recede in a painting
What is a monochromatic painting?
A painting done with one colour and its tints, shades and tones.
What are analogous colours?
colours beside each other on the colour wheel ex… red, orange, yellow,
