What are the qualities of horizontal lines in interior design?
- encourage a left to right eye movement
- make a room appear lower and wider
- create a relaxed, restful, informal and comfortable atmosphere
What are the qualities of diagonal lines in interior design?
- extend space
- dynamic and dramatic
- can be overbearing
- should be used sparingly and in conjunction with other types of line
What are the qualities of curved lines in interior design?
- add a feminine touch
- element of playfulness and informality to

What is a form?

What are the qualities of smooth surfaces?
- clean easy
- but reflect noise and light
What are the qualities of rough textures?
- absorb sound and light
- do not clean easily
- can stain
What textures appear cold and formal?
- satin
- leather
- gloss paint

What textures create a feeling of warmth and cosiness?
- wool
- wood
- matt paint
When should you use warm colours in interior design?
In a south facing room because south is cool, therefore use warm colours
When should you use cool colours in interior design?
In a north facing room because north is hot, therefore use cool colours
What is a monochromatic colour scheme?
When one colour is used with variations in shades and tints.
(can be monotonous if different intensities and textures are not used)
What is an analogous colour scheme?
When three or four adjacent colours on the colour wheel are used to create a harmonious colour scheme
What is a complementary colour scheme?
Two colours opposite each other on the colour wheel
What is a split complimentary colour scheme?
It is composed of one colour and the two colours on either side of its complement
What is a double complementary colour scheme?
This is the extensions of the complementary colours and are simply two sets of complements
What is a triadic colour scheme?
Any three hues equidistant around the colour wheel
