What is a line?
- A continuous mark
- which can be short or long
- thick or thin
- can be made up of a series of dots that form a line
What is tone?
the presence of light or dark in the colour of an object or area
What is shape?
- an area closed by an outline to make up a basic shape
- such as a:
- circle
- oval
- square
- rectangle
- suggest any shape
What is texture?
- refers to the surface of something whether it feels or -appears to be smooth
- rough
- bumpy
- or so on

What is balance?
- an even distribution of the components in an artwork or design
- it can be symmetrical or asymmetrical
What is complementary colours?
-the three primary colours and their secondary opposites on the colour wheel
What is contrast (in art)?
- opposite characteristics evident in something
- can be extreme (high contrast) or a mild (low contrast)
What is cross hatching?
-lines which criss-cross and are close together to model form and add tone
What is emphasis?
- is used to draw our eye’s attention in various ways
- such as a single bold colour in a monochromatic design
What is format?
-the size and shape of the artwork
What is harmony?
-occurs when the elements work well together and relate to one another closely
What is monochromatic?
-describes usage of a single colour (or black) with tonal variations
What is tone?
-a presence of light or dark in the colour of an object or area
