Color harmony. There are formulas for good colors that can be made via the color wheel. Colors have symbolism.
Monochromatic Colors
Different tints, shades, and tones of the same color. Simple and cohesive. Around 4 colors is good in this scheme. Base color, highlight color which is your lightest, shading color which is your darkest, and an in between middle accent shadow color
Complimentary Colors
Colors are directly across from eachother on the color wheel. Like Blue and Orange.
Analogous Colors
1 base color, 2 secondary colors. It is 3 colors near each other on the color wheel.
Split Complimentary Colors
Color triads on the color wheel. Basically drawing a triangle within the color wheel. More balanced compositions. Easier on the eyes than complimentary colors. You will always get one cool and two warm colors OR one warm and two cool colors.
