Function of the heart
A
The function of the heart is to pump blood through the body
To do this, it must coordinate electrical impulses through the cardiac tissue to cause contraction

What generates the HR?
A
The SA node (in the atria) generates an electrical impulse which travels through the heart causing depolarization and contraction at a regular rate and rhythm

What occurs with disturbances?
A
When disturbances happen to the electrical impulse, there can be abnormal contraction and changes to rate and rhythm, also known as arrhythmia
