Arrhenius Flashcards
Ionic hydroxide
Write a dissociation equation with a hydroxide ion as a product
Molecular compound containing HA or COOH
a. React the substance with water to form a hydronium ion and another product by determining the combination of atoms and charges required to balance the chemical equation.
Ionic compound that does not contain oxide or hydroxide ions
a. Write a dissociation equation.
b. In a second reaction, react the anion with water.
c. Note the evidence provided - if the final solution is acidic write hydronium ions as a product. If the final solution is basic, then hydroxide ions are a product.
d. Complete the other product by determining the combination of atoms and charge required to balance the chemical equation.
Metallic oxide
A. React the compound with water to form an ionic hydroxide.
b. Write a dissociation equation for the ionic hydroxide with a hydroxide ion as the product.
Non metallic oxide
a. React the compound with water to form a single product.
b. React the product with water to form a hydronium in and another product by determining the thing
combination of atoms and charges required to balance the chemical equation.
Other
If the substance does not fit into any of the above categories, react it with water to produce either a hydronium ion or a hydroxide ion and another product, depending on if the final solution is acidic or basic.
