Arms And Torso Flashcards
Trapezius
Superior - elevates scapula
Middle - adducts scapula
Inferior - depresses scapula
Supinator
Supinates forearm
Flexor carpi radialis
Flexes and abducts hand
Flexor carpi ulnaris
Flexes and abducts hand
Levator scapulae
Elevates, adducts scapula and slightly rotate it downward, laterally flexes neck to same side when scapula is fixed
Pectoralis major
Adducts and medially rotates arm
Brachioradialis
Flexes forearm (most effective when forearm is partially flexes and semi pronated)
Deltoid
Adducts arms, anterior fibers alone flex and medially rotate arm, posterior fibers alone extend and laterally rotate arm
Supraspinatus
Abducts arms, resists downward displacement of humerus when carrying heavy objects
Latissimus dorsi
Extends, adducts and medially rotates arm, draws humerus downward as in hammering
Flexor digitorum superficialis
Flexes hand and middle phalanges of digits II-V
Pectoralis minor
W/ ribs fixed - draws scapula forward and downward (arm is stretched forward reaching for an object)
W/ scapula fixed - elevates ribs during inspiration
Teres minor
Laterally rotates arm, helps to stabilize the shoulder joint
Extensor carpi radialis longus
Extends and abducts hand
Biceps brachii
Flexes and supinates forearm, weakly flexes arm
