What is a firearm
Anything from which any shot, bullet, missile or other projectile can be discharged by force of explosive.
What is a pistol and how long is it?
Less than 762mm long. Designed to be held and shot with one hand.
What is a restricted weapon?
Any weapon declared a restricted weapon by the Governor General.
What is a prohibited firearm?
A semi-auto (except pistol), a pump action shotgun (detachable or non-detachable magazine), includes any other firearm declared by order in council.
What are the 4 types of firearm licenses?
A = full license (conventional firearms) B = pistols (member of pistol club) C = collections D = dealer
How long does a firearms license last?
10 years - must be renewed every 10 years.
What can someone under 16 have a license for?
Cannot own a firearm or aircon but can use under immediate supervision.
What can someone 16-18 have a license for?
Requires a license for both firearm and airgun
What can someone 18+ have a license for?
Requires a license for a firearm but not an air gun
When should a firearms license be produced to police?
On demand or within 7 days of the demand at the police station
When should you notify police of change of address?
within 30 days.
What are you powers under S66B (Arms Act 1983)?
Demand details (name address DOB) of any person who possesses any firearm, airgun, pistol or restricted weapon.
What are your powers S18 (SASA 2012)?
Warrantless search and seize firearms (RAN or RAIN/BOR/169). GTS
What are the elements for S45(1) Unlawful carriage OR possession of a firearm (etc).
Except for some lawful, proper and sufficient purpose - carries OR is in possession of - firearm OR airgun OR pistol OR prohibited magazine OR restricted weapon OR explosives.
What are the elements for S46(1) Carrying an imitation firearm
Except for some lawful, proper and sufficient purpose - carries - an imitation firearm.
