When Constantine died in 337, his empire was split between 3 sons:
Constantine II, Constans, and Constantius
Conatantine II had:
the Western Provice, Catholic
Constans had
Italy, Africa and Greece, Catholic
Constantius
East and Egypt - Arian
Who died, who was left?
Constas defeated Constantine II - took over the West. Constans then died in 350 leaving Constantius sole ruler.
The empire was divided over the Nicaean Creed: 4 groups:
Right Wing Conservatives, Centrists, Left Wing and 4th - Radical Left Wind
The Right Wing Conservatives
objected to homo ou sious for Modalism concerns. They were in line with the church, but language was an issue
Centrists
