What is an argument?

A

seeking to persuade somebody of your view

trying to get across one big idea (the conclusion) supported by a number of propositions (premises)

What is the difference between a inductive argument and a deductive argument?

A

deductive argument is a proof - if the premises are true, the conclusion must be true

a inductive argument is made up of premises that are open, there are a number of conclusion that could be true

What is a posteriori argument and a priori argument

A

a posteriori argument is an argument based on evidence which already exists - POST evidence

a priori argument is an argument that does not depend on evidence but on reason alone - prior to evidence

A

synthetic arguments depends on something else for its existence - it could be false

analytic arguments are true by definition

What is the difference between necessary and contingent?

A

Necessary does not depend on anything else to be true - to deny it would be a contradiction

Contingent is the truth that can only be determined by observation
