argument + structure Flashcards
what are the tree types of arguments?
inductive, abductive, deductive
how do inductive + deductive arguments differ
inductive - drive to reach something new in their conclusion
inductive argument- what’s not guaranteed
= truth of conclusion is not fully guaranteed by truth of premises
abductive argument meaning
= argument leads us to a conclusion based from inferring meaning it could be true or false
p1 the leaves and grass have rain drops on them
p2 it rained yesterday
c it will rain tommorrow
(this conclusion if from inferring from evidence in the premises)
what does abduction rely on
our current beliefs
tautology meaning
a logical truth. a statement that can only be true no matter how the word happens to be
5 different types of premises
major, minor, hypothetical, reason, conclusion

similar to 3 mark slightly more detail concept or argument
don’t write too much define key terms in the question then explain the idea or concept asked
don’t analyse or evaluate
how to answer a 12 mark question
100% A01 don’t need to analyse or evaluate
only have to explain an idea or argument - don’t need to evaluate if it’s correct or not
good way to start define key terms in question
