logical appeals in which a writer presents a series of reasonable obervations and a conclusion to etablish a realiable claim or position

knowing the opponent’s argument, especially the strongest points and writing with objections and opposing arguments

- reasonably define the issue, argument and counter argument
- avoid misinterperating information being conveyed
- qualify or narrow or limit the argument to decrease the chance of a rebuttal or fallacy
