Aren't all religions the same? Flashcards
All the religions are the same because they focus on doing good.
Christianity is not the same as the other religions on how to reach God and go to heaven after death. It states that doing good alone is not enough to get you to heaven. It is that exception that proves that not all religions are the same - as long as Christianity exists, not all religions will be same.
Hence, if you want to connect with God, you can’t operate on the mindset that all religions are the same, you have to make a choice between Christianity and the rest.
Aren’t all religions the same? Don’t they all lead to the same God?
We can’t say that all religions are the same because different religions believe in different forms of God.
(One God) Monotheism - Christianity, Islam, Judaism
(Many gods) Polytheism - Taoism
(Everything is god/universe is god) Pantheism - Hinduism
It is also not possible to claim that they lead to the same God. There are differences even within religions with one god: The Christian god is a personal god, the islamic god is an impersonal god. The hindu god is the universe, not a being.
Furthermore, not all religions have explanations or the same explanations for
I) Creation
ii) Why we are here
iii) Where we will go after death
iv) How do we get there / how to connect with God
Only Christianity has explanation for all these points. See if they make sense to you.
One big difference between Christianity and the other religions is the last point: how to reach God and be in heaven.
Christianity states that good works alone is not enough, only faith in Christ will save us. (-> see: why can’t we save ourselves through good works?)
Hence, if you want to connect with God, you can’t operate on the mindset that all religions are the same, you have to make a choice between Christianity and the rest.
All religions are man-made to cultivate a lifestyle of doing good, there is no real religion, no real god.
Let’s examine your belief in God. -> How do you prove that God exists?
If all religions are not the same, how do we find out which is the real one?
(Same argument for how do you prove God exists?)
There is no argument that will be persuasive to everyone, all arguments are open to being refuted, but there are arguments that are more reasonable than others and which most people will find reasonable and convincing
These arguments helps us make the most sense of what we see about the world and ourselves.
For example, does the religion explain
i) Creation
ii) Man’s purpose for existence
iii) What comes after death
iv) How to get there (heaven) / how to connect with God
These are basic tenets of how a religion should explain the spiritual dimension of life.
On human nature, does it explain
i) men’s conflict between sin and goodness?
Only Christianity has explanation for all these points. See if they make sense to you.
