Durkheim views conscience as derived from purely external factors, social conditioning ad sanctions
Augustine believes conscience comes purely from the innate voice of god and has nothing to do with external factors
Freud ans butler are not compatible
Freud thinks that the rules we internalize within our superego to make the conscience are those given by people of authority
Butler think that conscience is not rule based, instead it is based on the intuitive balance of prudence and benevolence
Freud and aquinas are compatible
Compatible because they both believe that our conscience is based on a reasoning faculty which comes from people of authority. Freud would not believe that this authority comes from god but god could be inserted into his theory.
Kohlberg and aquinas are compatible
Kohlberg argues that our faculties of reasoning why things are wrong or right develops overtime. This means god could have programmed our reasoning abilities to develop like this
