Architecture BI Flashcards
What is Business Intelligence?
Maybe defined as set of mathematical models and analysis methodology that exploit the available data to generate information and knowledge useful for complex decision making process
Data sources
It is very important to collect and integrate the data which are stored in various primary and secondary sources that are heterogeneous in origin and type.
The sources of most part of data belongs to the operational systems which also includes unstructured documents like email and data received from various external sources.
Data warehouse
ELT stands for extract transform load. In an ETL process data is extracted from the operational systems and loaded into data warehouse.
The data from various sources is stored in database which is made to support bi analysis
Bi methodologies
Data is finally extracted and used to feed mathematical models and analysis methodologies intended to support decision makers.
Data exploration
At the third level of pyramid we find tools for performing passive bi methodologies which consists of query and reporting systems as well as statistical and visualization methods.
Data mining
4th level includes active bi methodologies whoses purpose is the extraction of knowledge and information from the data
Optimization model
Allows us to determine best solution out of set of alternative actions which is usually fairly extensive and sometimes even infinite
Decsions
Is the decision where we need to select best alternative for decison making process
