An archaeologist is a person who excavates objects of interest from underground and sometimes from underwater.
How do they know where to dig
Ariel photos , maps, surveys, old documents, rescue and accidental archaeology
How is the evidence preserved
Air, moisture, heat, buried, ash, mud, bogs, water
What materials would you need
Diggers shovels trowels brushes photographs and a map
How do they date objects on how old they are
Stratigraphy(the layers of the earth)
Carbon 14(the amount of carbon left in the artafact)
Dendrochronology(counting the rings of the tree)

Find it, map it, fence it off,dig down, the lower you get the more carful you get, when you find it you can wrap it up if it is very fragile, send it to a lab, then to a museum
