The Epic Hero
Example:Hercules

- Fights for glory as opposed to riches or rewards
- Battles monsters or “The Creature of Nightmare”
- Enjoys going on the journey and is usually successful

The Super Hero
Example: Superman
Antman
A
- They have some sort of superhuman powers
- Morally upright
- Fight enemies (who also have super powers)
- Tragic background

The Tragic Hero
Example: Hulk
A
- Fatal flaw
- A great character is destined for a downfall or suffering
- Often influenced by fate/destiny/the super natural
- Makes an error in judgement

The Mentor
Example: TMNT-The Splinter
A
- The brains of the operation
- An assistant to hero
- Does not necessarily embark on the hero’s journey with the hero
- May sacrifice himself/herself for the hero or the cause

The Sidekick
Example: Robin
A
- Assist the hero on his/her journey
- Not brave talented enough to take the journey on his/her own
- Sometimes you to add a comical edge to the story

The Damsel in Distress
Example: Rapunzel
A
- A woman who needs to be rescued
- Typically featured as an ingenue who cannot take care of herself
- Sometimes used to trap a hero or lure him into danger

The Creature of Nightmare
Example: Harry Potter-Voldemort
A
- Challenges the hero
- Threatens the lives of the innocent people
- Repellent and sometimes a distorted version of a human

The Fool
Example: Shreik- Donkey
A
- Provides comic relief
- Is concerned to be less then the hero or a protagonist
- May be an animal
- Is used to help the reader/viewer better understand the hero (based on the way the hero treats “The Fool”)

- Shunned by his/her peers
- Destined to roam
- Acussed of a crime (usually)
