Hero
Courageous, saves the day. I.e hercules
Death
Antagonist that thwarts the heros plans. I.e. Satan
Love interest
Usually female, sometimes distracts hero from journey or provides motivation. I.e. Juliet
Wise one/mentor
Provides guidance, often has magical powers. I.e. Gandalf
Sidekick
Provides a foll (portrays person) for the hero; is a helper but does not overshadow the hero. I.e.pippin
Outcast
Has been cast out of society or has left on a voluntary basis,destined to become a wanderer. I.e. Gollum
Shrew
The nagging bothersome wife who is always battering her husband
Scapegoat
Gets blamed for everything regardless of whether he or she is at fault. I.e. The jews
Enchantress/temptor
Characterized by sensuous beauty and usually involved with the protagonists downfall. I.e. Cleopatra, sirens
Loss of innocence
(Situation) Loss of innocence through violence, sexual experience,nor any other means
Initiation
(Situation) process by which a character is brought into another sphere of influence, usually into adulthood
Quest
(Situation) searching for something, whether conscious or unconscious
Task
(Situation) situation in which a character or group is given to complete duty, often of monstrous proportion
Water
(Symbolic) life, cleansing, rebirth; used in odds; I.e the Bible
Rising sun
(Symbolic) rebirth, beginning; rarely see someone die
