A
Innate universal psychic characteristics that form the basic themes of human life.

It would make us a psychologically stronger person

The shadow
A
- the suppressed part of personality we don’t want to reveal
- source of shame and anxiety, so we deny it
- symbolised as original sin

The persona
A
- the mask we wear to make a particular impress to others. Conceals our true nature
- can lead to inner conflict and a repression of our own individuality

Anima and animus
A
- the inner attitude that takes on characteristics of opposite sex. Often repressed
- anima is the archetypal image of a woman in the unconscious of every man
- animus is the archetypal image of a man in the unconscious of every woman

The self
A
- the mid point of the personality, balancing between the opposing qualities
- provides a sense of unity in experience

What did Jung consider as the aim of the individual?
A
To achieve a state of ‘self-hood.’
