Ego-self
regulating center that brings about a constant extension and maturation of the personality
Self
criticism from the unconscious
- instinctive, lesser-known side of the personality, typically appearing as a shadowy figure of the same sex.
- rejected, unhealthy, repulsive, frightening, or threatening role, as it represents characteristics that you may have rejected within yourself.
Shadow
contain threatening and suppressed material: fearful or uncomfortable fragments of self: counter myths unacceptable to the ego-self; your shadow self and instinctual forces.
Unconscious Realm
contains personal memories- the ego-self and its various states and behaviors- and your personal mythic structure.
Conscious Realm
a manifestation of the collective unconscious

collective patterns that appear in both our dreams and our walking life such as drawings, paintings and mandala creations
Collective unconscious
tendency for conscious or transcending material to appear on the right and above and for unconscious material to appear to the left, below or into the
right-left orientation
represents our deeper primitive instinctual nature, the autonomous emotions erupting from the unconscious.
- connection with our natural surroundings
- personally and instinctive association with that animals we see in our dreams
- associate with deeper instincts or fears
- just apart of the environment we see
animal motif
any strong movement, exemplifying release as a symbol of transcendence. when something is suppressed over long periods, the energy can build up and can result in explosive releases. - tornado, red black, volcano
release
major inner guiding force which compensates for misconceptions of the ego-self.
appears as an unknown companion, challenging figure, or shadow-like character
compensating character
compensating intervention of the self. are often metaphors and need to be understood in the context of the dream it relates to.
compensating voice
one part of the imagery is the expected element then the other is unexpected compensating element such as fathers face on husbands body
illogical imagery
revealing surprise outcomes and letting us experience the results of our actions. testing scenarios, urging us to go in new direction and projecting the result.
