What are artefacts
Objects made by humans eg. Coins tools and pottery
What is archeology?
The study of the remains left by our ancestors
What does excavate mean
When archeologists dig in the ground looking for remains from the past
What’s a survey?
A study carried out on a site before archeologists start digging
What’s a source ?
Evidence eg. Documents and pictures used by historians to find out what happened in the past
How do objects end up in the ground
Some are lost they can be put under ground for safe keeping then they can be forgotten about
What’s research archeology
When a site is chosen because there is evidence that objects could be found
What is rescue archeology
To make sure no evidence from the last is lost
What is history
History’s the study of the past
What’s the difference between history and pre-history
Pre-history is before writing was used and history is when writing was used
What’s a primary source?
It comes directly from the past
What’s secondary source?
Evidence that comes a day later they are based in primary sources and they are written after the event
