Arabic Alphabets Flashcards
These are Arabic alphabets. Used as a writing system for all written Arabic script across dialects. However, pronunciation of some letter may vary accoriding to region even within one country
أ
Alif (A) as in أنا (ana) meaning ‘I’
ب
Baa (B) as in باب (Baab) meaning ‘Door’
ت
Taa (T) as in توت (Toot) meaning ‘rasberry’
ث
Thaa (TH) as in Thank you
Not used in Egyptian.
ج
Geem (G) as in جميل (Gameel) meaning ‘beautiful’.
ح
Haa (also H) as in Ahmad (Aحmad)
خ
Khaa (doesn’t exist in English) example; خبر (Khabar) meaning news.
د
Daal (D) as in دبي (Dubai)
ذ
THaal (TH)as in THE in English.
Not used in Egyptian.
Example: ذرة (THurah) meaning corn.
In Egyptian; THaal turns into Daal.
Egyptian: درة Durah
ر
Raa (R) as in راجل (Ragel) meaning man.
ز
Zein (Z) as in زيارة (Zyarah) meaning Visit (noun)
س
Seen (S) as in ساحل (Sah’ح’l) meaning coast.
Example: Sahel Gaza ‘the coast of Gaza’
ش
Sheen (Sh) as in شمس (Shams) meaning Sun
ص
Saad (Harsh S) as in صحيح (Saheeh) meaning correct.
ض
Daadh (doesn’t exist in any other language)
Example; ضروري (Daroori) meaning important, Neccessary.
