Explain Egypt’s shift from pan-arabism to pro-western conservativism
During the regime of Nasser, Egypt had been at the fore front of the push for Pan-Arabism anti-western influence in the region. But under the rule of Anwar Sadat, Egypt alligned with Saudi Arabia and the US, and therefore also Israel which Nasser had previously waged several wars against.
Explain the arab uprisings in the 2000s
Lynch argues that the Arab Spring in 2011 can be predicted when looking back to the protests across the arab world in the ealry 2000s due to the second wave of Palestinian Intifada, as well as US invasion of Iraq - this anger would eventually turn inwards towards the regimes of the Arab countries - this internal focused was the foundation of the uprisings in 2011
